The Wolf Sanctum was founded to provide a safe refuge for captive born Wolves (and Wolf-dogs) While we cannot always accommodate all the requests for Sanctuary, we do network with numerous other sanctuaries and rescue organizations nationwide.  Educational assistance offering advice on behavioral issues, containment, and general care requirements may preclude the need for an animal to be re-homed.

While our "Residents" come from  diverse backgrounds....some displaced, some abandoned or found roaming, from roadside zoos, backyard breeders....they all have one thing in common:  the need for a safe refuge where their physical and social behavioral needs can be met.  We strive to provide a secure habitat, provide enrichment, and meet nutritional and medical needs.  We also strive to socialize as much as possible by instilling care and trust ....and love.

We give permanent sanctuary to animals we take in; every once in awhile we do get one that, after extensive evaluation,  would be better suited in a private home.   We hope you will go to our Link's section and visit the wolfdog adoption board.

After her beloved Trace passed, Timbre insisted we move Eshelokee in with her!  And what Timbre wants, she gets.  These two have hit it off famously, and Lokee is a suitable spirited match for Miss Poofy.

Nala was originally purchased by an Animal Trainer from an auction in Missouri.  When this did not work out, she was taken in by another trainer who kept her safe and secure until a suitable sanctuary could be found.
Our Rose has thorns....born April 27, 2000) came to us in December of 2003 a dedicated "man" hater, but has been turned around!
Our extremely shy & elusive ones.... Cheyenne (born April 28, 2001), Deuce (born April 1999),  Cheyenne is amazingly affectionate to certain females and loves children; Deuce is totally elusive, and males generally have to hide for him to even accept food by hand.
The Old Fort Pack originally consisted of four wolfdogs from Old Fort, North Carolina.  The two parents, Angel and  Spirit were brought up in September of 2003. It took six months to successfully capture Anubis and Raven, their two offspring,  who were totally unsocialized and running wild in a very large enclosure. While we have sadly lost two of this pack, Raven and Spirit remain.  Spirit is a friendly old girl, but her daughter remains as skittish and wary of humans as ever, although she will now approach to take food.  We consider these small steps some progress!
Denali is a sibling of Shamen and Alpine.  The two females ended up having to be separated and Nali likes her alone space!
The Wild Bunch: Nashoba, Little Brother, Manitou.

Nashoba and Little Brother can be quite friendly to those they know, when they choose to be!  Manitou shys away....but all of this group keeps a longing and watchful eye on the forests that surround our sanctuary that earns them their title as The Wild Bunch.

Sad Note:  Nashoba was humanely euthanized on May 1, 2008 due to kidney failure.  She was 12 years of age.  She is survived by her two brothers, Little Brother and Manitou.

Our "Not Quite as Wild" Bunch; Alpine and Shaman, born in March of 1998, came to live with our Director just prior to the move to North Carolina and the establishment of The Sanctum. Their sibling, Denali, also joined them...altho' she proved to earn the nickname Brat Nali at first. Shaman is both wise and sweet. Alpine, also a sweetie, loves to perch on top of her house.
Wa Layla, a casualty of the Florida hurricane season, is  unsocialized as far as actually making physical contact,  but she does like to come up and "nose" you when your back is turned.. She spent the first year and a half housed with Deuce and Cheyenne, but when this pretty miss reached her 'maturity', Cheyenne didn't want to share Deuce and kicked her out!  Layla, born in April of 2004, will hopefully be matched with a suitable enclosure buddy one of these days....
V'Petti is a loving gentle wolfdog that has been with our Director since birth.  He is getting well up there in age....once you earn his trust, he can be quite the friendly fellow.
