JANUARY 2006 Update:

A superior court judge has ruled that Alaska has violated its own regulations and the aerial shooting of the wolves in Alaska has been halted.   However, in an "emergency" meeting, it appears the officials are trying to get in reinstituted.  Please go to Friends of Animals website for current news.

the aerial shooting has been going on for three years now, despite growing evidence from experts in the field that this is NOT a viable solution.  However, to put it bluntly, the governor of Alaska does not give a rat's ass about any "outsider" opinion, and the plain fact is that the people of  Alaska voted him back in.    I am sure if you are reading this, you are probably environmentally conscious and already know that they are trying to pass drilling for oil in the Wildlife Refuge up there after gas prices rose to the point that the American Consumer will be manipulated into selling their grandmother down the river ........

DIRECTIONS:

From Asheville or from Hickory area  (several options:

(1)   I-40 to exit 86 and come north towards Marion.

Come up about another five miles, then turn left onto highway 19E.  Come up two stoplights, and turn right onto 226 N again towards Bakersville.   Drive about another ten to fifteen minutes and you will be in Bakersville.  At the Texaco/Quick Mart, turn right onto Maple Avenue and come up to the end and turn right onto Cane Creek Road.

Come up 3.5 miles on Cane Creek.  We are at 3815 Cane Creek Road on the left.  You will see our large white sign saying The Sanctum, and our own road name, Wolf Crossing.  Turn left and follow the gravel drive up the hill, and take the first drive on the right to the Wolf Compound.

FROM THE BOONE AREA:

you can cut across around Newland/Linville on 184 / 221, and take Three Mile Road.  It ends on Hwy 19.  Turn left and come past Spruce  Pine, turning right onto 226 N into Bakersville.  The follow the directions as stated above.

FROM  JOHNSON CITY (TRI-CITIES area) Tn:

Take I-26 towards Asheville.  Get off at Exit 23/Unicoi Road and turn left.  Go about .05 miles to the stopsign, and turn RIGHT onto Hwy 173 east.  Go .06 mile, and turn LEFT onto Hwy 107.   Follow 107 for about 10 miles and it becomes NC Highway 226.  Continue on Hwy 226 for another 16 miles.  You will come into Bakersville and there will be a blinking yellow light.  Turn RIGHT at this blinking light onto Crimson Laurel Way, which is also Hwy 226 going south.   Immediately take a LEFT at the stoplight onto North Mitchell/Cane Creek Road.  (Please note that there is no street sign at this intersection...but, there is only one stoplight in the entire town)  Come up 3.5 miles and you will see out sign on the left, and our road sign Wolf Crossing.
